Every week, I’m featuring 5 incredible individuals on John’s Road to Volunteering, who I see as ‘Community Champions’. ‘Community Champions’ are inspirational individuals who take time out of their day to make an impact on the world in their own way.
If you didn’t catch week 1 of this new series, you can read it here.
As it’s not about me today, let’s keep it short and sweet and let the 5 ‘Community Champions’ this week give you an insight into what they’re all about and I’ll explain why I’m inspired by what they do.
A Dutch, Football and Tea obsessed Arts & Culture student. I love all things cultural, lifestyle and British. I’m Bipolar and I’m okay with that, I’m trying to raise awareness for mental health and trying to reduce stigma.
Reasons why Marc is my hero: Marc to me is one of those guys you have to have in your life. The guy takes time out of his day reaching out to others, letting them know they have someone there for them. Marc regularly runs threads on Twitter, messaging tonnes of people about how amazing they are. It’s this small gesture that I believe more people need to do! Marc, you’re an inspiration and you motivate me every day to do something for someone else.
Having lived with mental health issues from a very young age, I have experienced a lot of stigma and discrimination. That’s why I wanted to show people that it doesn’t matter their age, gender, race, or economic status, mental illness can affect anyone.
‘This is what a person with mental illness looks like’ is a project to raise awareness as well as educate people on mental health. Doing this by sharing my own experiences, things that have/haven’t helped me as well as stories from people who have struggled/ are still struggling with their mental health.
Reasons why Kay is my hero: What Kay doesn’t know is that I’ve been admiring her work from a far. When we did connect, I instantly felt her warm presence impacting my mind-set. Kay runs MH stories and gives others a platform to share their mental health stories without feeling judged. Seeing her use her own battles to help others with theirs is selfless. I just feel honoured to be in her community.
I’m Chloe, and I’m a 20 year old student from Wales. I started my blog ‘chloetommo’ as a way to get rid of my thoughts regarding my mental health, but then I carried on due to the positive responses I received. I want my blog to provide a safe-zone for those who are struggling with mental health related issues, and for them to feel like they have somewhere to turn and to feel as if they’re not alone.
Reasons why Chloe is my hero: Since getting to know Chloe, I see someone with a heart of gold. To see someone with so much passion for helping others is a breath of fresh air. Chloe to me is one of those people who needs to be heard, who needs to be recognised, and Chloe, you’re an inspiration! Never change who you are and keep doing the amazing work you’re doing!
I’m Char, a slightly cockney but relatable human who runs an ‘anything goes’ Blog & YouTube channel! All I want is to engage with my readers in a way such that they actually feel like they know me as a friend (as the surname suggests), giving them a real giggle so that they feel better about their very normal life! I feel that so much pressure is put on us to be a certain way or like certain things, and show the same on social media, whereas I want to get away from that. My motto is ‘I’m obsessively opposed to the typical’, and that’s what I strive to do with my blog!
Reasons why Charlie is my hero: Her inner beauty is why Charlie is my hero. When you get to know Charlie, you get to meet someone you adore! Everyone loves Charlie in the blogging world, and there’s a reason for it. She’s just herself! Charlie is an example of why you should be proud of who you are and embrace everything that comes with it.
Hi! I’m Claire, designer, illustrator, cat and cake lover and owner of a baby business called Aloha Lola Cards.
I’ve been crafting up banners, logos, business cards and caricatures for the blogging community and beyond for over a year now.
It’s been so lovely to make so many twitter friends in the blogging realm, so to anyone I chat to, or worked with, heyyyyyyy you gorgeous bunch!
Reasons why Claire is my hero: Claire doesn’t know this, but the blogging world wouldn’t be the same without her. She’s not even a blogger, and yet she is having such a big impact on all of us! Her illustrations are incredible, her personality is infectious, and she’s just an all-round stunner!
How inspirational are Marc, Kay, Chloe, Charlie and Claire? Each person has caught my eye in recent weeks and I know they’ll be doing more amazing things in the coming weeks and months.
If you want to get to know them more, make sure you check out their work, and let them know how amazing they are!
