Social Media…today’s chosen platform to talk to friends, meet new people and share our thoughts on day to day life, and an array of opinions covering the latest news stories.
For charities and bloggers it can be much more. Social media for us is an opportunity to build our brand, adding new networks and followers at times fitting in with our niche and our core values, giving an individual perspective into the benefits of utilising digital marketing to our advantage.
I’ve had various meetings these last few months talking about what social media really is, and to many, this might already be known, but to some, it’s a new perspective.
Social media is the most powerful tool for word of mouth.
We spend hours building a community for our activities, and yet we forget the most important thing; COMMUNITY!
A community are a close nit group of individuals or groups with the same passion. Once a member of the community has a life experience, everyone knows about it. But what happens once someone knows?
They go and tell someone else about it.
Social Media is no different. We like, retweet or comment on a tweet signalling our interest in the content shared. What happens after this??
The same thing. Look at the tweet below;
This was a tweet I posted yesterday. Once someone engaged with the tweet, someone else followed and then the conversation grew and grew to the point my jaw hit the floor.
So next time you wonder how effective your tweet has been, the real story is we don’t really know. Analytics can show us the direct engagement, but you never know how far word of mouth can take it.
Believe in you, your community and your content. The rest will sort itself out.
