When John asked me if I wanted to do a blog post on my experience being hearing impaired I was happy to do it. I feel like topics like this or any other disability (not that I, personally would class myself to have one) doesn’t get talked about enough so by doing this post I hope to spread some light on the issue.
I want to start by saying I am hearing impaired and wear hearing aids for me to be able to hear. I don’t let being hearing impaired define me in any way. After all it’s all I’ve ever known. I am still able to hear just like the rest of you due to me wearing hearing aids. Being hearing impaired or deaf whatever you like to call it doesn’t stop me from living my life how I want to.
As I have gotten older I have grown in confidence in who I am I have been lucky that I have never experienced being bullied at school or touch wood felt discriminated against. I have got supportive family and friends around me who love me for me.
